I hope it is fair to say that a reasonable number, if not all, readers of this on-line magazine have bought one or more watches from a store. Regular readers of my ramblings may remember my efforts at working on the Speake-Marin stand at the Basel Fair this year. I didn’t seem to scare anyone off and the only casualties were my aging knees; as such it might be considered a qualified success. But I always had the thought there must be another challenge out there.

Taking Up The Challenge
One of the perennial complaints I hear, and from some very influential sources, is that the standard of sales people in many stores is what can really only be described, politely, as poor. This is primarily true of large commercial multi-brand stores, and regrettably some single-brand stores as well; though of course there are, thankfully, exceptions. So maybe my next challenge should be to try and actually sell a watch to someone, I mean how hard can it be? True I am not a tall leggy blond of the type that seems to frequent a number of stores, but I know a little about watches, which seems to be more than some of them do.
